It’s extremely hard to recruit the ‘right’ person for a team. In fact there is a tension in a lot of work places where people say they want the best but also that there are ways of making sure that everybody can become very good at what they do. Some companies unwittingly recruit for skills alone, when skills can always be trained in. Being able to collaborate and work with others is far more important.

There are a number of practices that can be employed to make sure you have a good fit, including pairing with potential recruits. You don’t need rock stars – in fact do you really want someone on their third partner this month with a bad crack habit?

In our long careers we have worked with various organisations on getting a good fit, and making sure the technical capabilities are there before the full-blown interview.
